Concerns Rise Over the Deterioration of Howly Shaheed Bedi

Steel Railings Removed, Public Property at Risk

Special Correspondent ,Howly, Assam –Serious concerns have emerged over the condition of the Howly Shaheed Bedi, one of Assam’s most visually remarkable memorial sites. Recent developments suggest not only neglect but potential structural compromise of the site, prompting questions about the safeguarding of public assets.

Reports indicate that the steel railings surrounding the Shaheed Bedi have been removed. According to sources, this is linked to a new drainage construction project. Initially, plans were made to lay the pipeline along the exterior of the Bedi's wall to avoid any damage. However, for reasons yet to be officially explained, the project was halted midway. Authorities have now opted to construct the drainage system directly through the premises of the memorial, raising widespread public concern.

Adding to the controversy, multiple lights installed around the Shaheed Bedi have reportedly been stolen. Other essential materials from the site have also disappeared over time, highlighting a pattern of neglect and insufficient security.

Citizens are questioning who is responsible for the maintenance and protection of this significant public property, which was built with considerable investment from public funds. With growing fears that mismanagement, political indifference, and administrative negligence could lead to the permanent deterioration of the site, calls for accountability are becoming louder.

Will the Howly Shaheed Bedi, a symbol of collective memory and sacrifice, be allowed to crumble?
Only time will tell.
